The Office of the Secretary of State (SOS), Texas’ chief election administrator, must make election transparency a top concern. However, currently proposed rules will negatively impact voters' confidence in the system, taking elections in this state in the wrong direction. This is unacceptable!
Voters must know that the state and counties are holding free and fair elections, and transparency in election administration is not an option, but a fundamental requirement. While an election "hack" may seem unlikely, it remains a possibility (especially given the recent news of states’ voter registration rolls being hacked!) The production of some form of real-time paper records, in addition to digital audit logs that can later be printed, is a critical step that must remain in place, and one that should be advanced, not rolled-back.
