Sen. Huffines Applauds New Opportunities For Texas Students
With the passage of Senate Bill 3 out of committee, Texas is one step closer to empowering students and parents with new opportunities through innovative, customizable education choice.
AUSTIN – Today, the Senate Education Committee passed Senate Bill 3, the school choice bill. Senator Don Huffines (R-Dallas), who is a co-author to the bill, has been a long-time champion of education choice. Senator Huffines has consistently promoted the benefits of education choice at every possible opportunity.
In light of Senate Bill 3 advancing through the legislative process, the following statement is attributable to Senator Huffines:
"Today is a great day for Texas students and parents! Students are now one step closer to having more opportunities to seize a brighter future. Senate Bill 3 focuses on students first - not buildings or bureaucrats. This bill will bring competition into the education market. Competition increases quality and lowers price, bringing higher quality education at a savings to the taxpayer.
"Texas is home to many great public schools, and that's certainly true in my Senate District 16. Senate Bill 3 provides opportunities to those few students for whom the public school just doesn't work for any number of reasons. I want all children to love to learn, and to wake up each day excited to go to school. I want our public schools to be the best they can possibly be. That's why I am passionate about using every tool at our disposal, including school choice and competition. Senate Bill 3 helps us get there.
"I thank Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Chairman Larry Taylor for their leadership on this critical issue. This is a top priority for Texas families, and I'm proud to partner with these leaders and others in the Texas Senate to help make the future brighter for Texas students."
