Senator Huffines Denouces Appalling Fiscal Mismanagement By Dallas County Schools
Calls for immediate, in-depth, independent audit on behalf of taxpayers, students, and parents
AUSTIN – Following Dallas County Schools' board meeting today, the following statement is attributable to Senator Don Huffines (R-Dallas):
"I have long joined news outlets like NBC 5 in sounding the alarm on Dallas County Schools. Today's news of appalling fiscal mismanagement underscores that students, parents, and taxpayers deserve better than Dallas County Schools. I am working with a renewed sense of urgency to make sure that the Legislature achieves a workable transition away from Dallas County Schools so the school districts that are served are not negatively impacted.
"The end of Dallas County Schools is inevitable, which is why the Legislature is obligated to act immediately. I will make sure the Legislature abolishes Dallas County Schools in a way that protects the interests of students, parents, and taxpayers in Dallas County.
"Taxpayers deserve answers, which is why I am calling for an in-depth, independent financial audit of Dallas County Schools. With such extreme fiscal mismanagement by Dallas County Schools, it's time that we start to consider whether this rogue and unnecessary bureaucracy has committed crimes against taxpayers. Oversight over Dallas County Schools is virtually non-existent, which will make this audit a challenge. That's all the more reason we need to get to the bottom of what seems to be fraud perpetrated against the taxpaying citizens of Dallas County."
