Senator Huffines Led the Fight to Kill the Margins Tax
Senator Huffines' amendment would have created jobs and economic growth across Texas.
Austin- State Senator Don Huffines (R - SD 16) filed an amendment to Senate Bill 7 to begin a phase-out of the job-killing margins tax. Relieving business owners of the margins tax would have created tens of thousands of jobs, which would have brought extraordinary economic growth and prosperity across Texas.
“The margins tax kills jobs, dampens investment, and stalls prosperity”, said Senator Huffines. “As a business owner, I have dealt with this tax first-hand. It is past time that we get rid of the margins tax. Today was a missed opportunity for further job growth, prosperity, and economic freedom. This amendment was a common sense, and logical solution to end a bad tax.
"Instead of additional tax relief, we got a study. My pro-growth, pro-jobs amendment was regrettably gutted, but we will find a way to achieve the significant job growth that would accrue from phasing out the margins tax. I'm disappointed that we didn't win this vote today, but I'm undeterred from the cause of doing away with the margins tax once and for all. We will find a way to cut the head off of this snake once and for all!"
Senator Huffines' floor amendment was amended to become a study instead of a phased-out repeal of the margins tax.
