Senator Huffines Passes Senate Bill 62 out of the Senate
Requiring the Texas Comptroller to account for the costs of illegal immigration.
Austin- State Senator Don Huffines (R - Dallas) has led the charge in creating greater government transparency of how Texas taxpayer dollars are being spent. SB 62, which requires the Texas Comptroller to account for the costs of illegal immigration, passed the Texas Senate yesterday. This will take into account the border security, education, health care, and incarceration costs of illegal immigration, which will give policymakers and the public a comprehensive estimate of how much illegal immigration costs Texas taxpayers.
“The federal government has refused to fulfill its responsibility of securing the border and providing a working system of legal immigration,” said Senator Huffines. "Because of this, Texas taxpayers have had to bear significant costs due to illegal immigration. SB 62 requires the Texas Comptroller to account for the costs Texas bears due to illegal immigration. This will help provide greater government transparency and accountability with regard to how and where Texas taxpayer’s dollars are being spent. This report will arm policymakers with valuable information we can use to protect Texans as we pursue stronger border security.”
