The Dallas Morning News says “Sen. Don Huffines is right…"

My fight to save students, taxpayers, and schools from a corrupt bureaucracy is gaining some exciting momentum! At the hearing for SB 1122 on April 11, Dallas ISD leaders, including the Superintendent and one Board Trustee, testified in favor of my bill to abolish Dallas County Schools (DCS).

Now, The Dallas Morning News agrees with a recently published editorial titled “Sen. Don Huffines is right: Dallas County Schools should be abolished.” Some key excerpts follow:

"Dallas County Schools operates in relative obscurity. Few county residents know what it does or remember voting for its trustees. It's a public agency that collects property taxes but doesn't operate schools. Its main function is providing bus service to local school districts.”

"Dallas County Schools has been in the news this year because of financial and management problems — and because it could soon disappear. Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas, has written a bill, SB 1122, that would abolish the agency, its board of trustees and its superintendent. That's a painful step, but a necessary one. DCS has outlived its utility. School districts still need bus service; they just don't need DCS to provide it.”

I encourage you to read the full editorial  and share it with your friends, family, contacts, and colleagues. You can also help by signing my petition in support of abolishing Dallas County Schools!

This central bureaucracy levies a property tax on every homeowner & business in Dallas County, but it doesn’t educate students. It operates buses, but it has a track record of unreliability, dangerous driving, and financial mismanagement that borders on corruption.

For more background, check out the outstanding journalism by the NBC 5 investigative team - What they have uncovered is disturbing, and it inspires & informs my fight to abolish DCS. Will you join my fight to protect students, taxpayers, and schools from this rogue bureaucracy?

"This is about unaccountable bureaucracy gone wild. It's that simple.” - Edwin Flores, DISD Trustee

Momentum is building for SB 1122 - it was voted out of the Senate Education Committee last week. I need your help to get the bill across the finish line and to Governor Greg Abbott’s desk for his signature.
